Job Action Temporarily Suspended in Communities Impacted by Wildfires

As concerns continue to grow over threats of wildfire in the province, the Nurses’ Bargaining Association (NBA) is temporarily suspending job action in impacted communities to support residents threatened by wildfires. NBA members across BC have been engaging in job action since July 2. This has included a ban on non-nursing duties and a restriction on overtime hours.

“Our patients and communities always come first,” said BCNU President Adriane Gear. “The aim of job action is to show how dependent the employer is on nurses doing non-nursing duties, not to impact patient care. Nurses both work and live in these communities. We are here to support those affected by wildfires, so we are putting a pause on job action in communities impacted until further notice.”

Gear says the union will continue to monitor wildfire situations in other parts of the province and may take further actions to support communities under threat as needed.

July 23: Job action temporarily suspended at Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre until further notice
July 20: Job action temporarily suspended at Kimberley Special Care Home and Kimberley Health Centre until further notice
July 20: Suspension of job action lifted at Pemberton Care Centre and Pemberton Health Unit given wildfire threat has subsided.
July 17: Job action temporarily suspended at Hope Community, Fraser Lodge, Fraser Canyon Hospital and Agassize Community Health Centre until further notice.
July 17: Job action temporarily suspended at Pemberton Care Centre and Pemberton Health Unit until further notice.
