Nurses’ Votes Count in Local and Provincial Elections

BC’s upcoming local and provincial government elections are opportunities for members to have a say in the direction of their government. BCNU is a non-partisan but politically active organization, meaning we do not support any political party but organize around issues.

BCNU recognizes the importance of having strong leadership and understanding of nurses’ issues at every level of government. The union endorses members who are running as election candidates based on criteria outlined in BCNU Member Policy 3.1.7, which include supporting the union’s objectives and policies that improve patient care and the publicly funded, delivered and administered health-care system.

2026 General Local Elections

General local elections for municipal mayors and councils, regional district electoral areas, boards of education, park boards, local community commissions and the Islands Trust take place every four years on the third Saturday in October.

This year, Saturday, Oct. 17 is general voting day.

Elections BC’s general local elections page has a full list of candidates running across BC, as well as details on who is eligible to vote, what identification is required to vote and other technical information. Voting locations can be found on your local government or municipal website.

2026 Provincial Election

A provincial election has also been called with a final voting day of Oct. 24, and it is important BCNU members to be engaged in it. Members running as candidates are encouraged to reach out to BCNU Vice President Tristan Newby at tristannewby@bcnu.org to request an endorsement. Stay tuned for further updates and resources.
