‘Shine a Light. Report It.’
BCNU marks North American Occupational Safety and Health Week with launch of new reporting campaign
Every nurse and health-care worker deserves a safe and healthy workplace — and workplace safety starts with speaking up. Reporting hazards, injuries, violence, and psychological harm is how workplace safety concerns are documented, investigated, and addressed.
This North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) week, BCNU is proud to launch a new member-facing campaign, Shine a Light. Report It., highlighting the importance of reporting physical or psychological workplace safety incidents, near misses or hazards. Watch the campaign video, access resources, and learn why reporting is one of the most powerful tools nurses have to improve workplace safety. Campaign posters and materials will also be distributed at worksites by mental health and occupational health and safety representatives across the province.
As part of BCNU’s NAOSH week activities, members are also invited to take part in the Safety Spot Challenge, running May 4–18 behind the BCNU Member Portal. Test your knowledge, share your experiences, and have your name entered into a prize draw.
In addition, members are encouraged to review new NAOSH 2026 resources that explain how Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) committee representatives help to make worksites safer.
NAOSH Week began in Canada in 1997 and has since grown into a continent-wide effort to promote occupational health and safety awareness across North America and foster stronger workplace safety cultures.
