BCNU celebrates Nursing Week

May 08, 2015
Activities include a province-wide radio message that honours nurses and a rally calling on politicians to support safe care

As BC's voice of nursing and representative of 43,000 professional working nurses the BC Nurses' Union celebrates Nursing Week May 11-17 along with all nurses.

Our annual radio ad features BCNU President Gayle Duteil and will play on radio stations throughout BC. The ad calls on the public to join the BCNU in recognizing our professional nurses who deliver complex health care twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week in hospitals, long-term care facilities and in the community.

BCNU knows that everyday all across the province nurses in every setting are working hard to provide safe care and advocate for their patients. That's why your nursing leadership and more than two hundred nurses are heading to the legislature this week to remind the government that safe care can only be provided if there are enough nurses.

We hope every community and every British Columbian takes a minute to celebrate nurses as the highly skilled professional workers that we are, and to appreciate the dedication we bring to our work - day in and day out across our province. In the long run, we ask the government; health authorities and all health employers to respect nurses, trust our judgment and knowledge and recognize our ability to lead positive change in improving the quality of public health care for the patients and families that we serve.
