Wildfire Crisis Continues to Put Pressure on Health Care Facilities and Staff around BC

July 21, 2017
Provincial government has extended the state of emergency for two more weeks

The BC Nurses' Union is reminding members affected by the ongoing wildfire crisis in BC to follow all protocols issued by their employers. For those working in hospitals and long-term care facilities in Interior Health, an updated version of a Q&A is now available. This will help to answer legitimate concerns regarding compensation, travel, pre-booked vacations and more. Meanwhile, the provincial government recently announced the state of emergency in the province has been extended by two weeks.

All BCNU members who would like to offer support to those affected by the ongoing wildfire situation in the province can donate to the Canadian Red Cross BC Fires Appeal. Members can text FIRES to 45679 to donate $10. The money will go towards providing financial assistance, cots, blankets and family reunification services.

BCNU is working with the Ministry of Health and other health sector partners during this crisis and is monitoring the situation. Continue to visit our website for future updates.
