Members Debate Bylaw Amendments

Convention 2025 - Day 2 - Members Debate Bylaw Amendments

The second day of convention saw delegates engage in vibrant debate on three proposed union bylaw amendments.

The group passed an amendment to bylaw Article 8, giving members of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee convention delegate status.

Delegates defeated a proposed amendment to bylaw Article 5 that would have disallowed members who have, at any point in time, been a member not in good standing from holding or running for Provincial Executive Officer or Regional Council Member positions.

A proposed amendment to bylaw Article 8 that would have added more BCNU convention delegates and alternates for regions that have more than 4,000 members was also defeated.

Delegates also began voting on convention resolutions. They voted in favour of a resolution to increase regional council member remuneration to the equivalent of level 5/step 10 of the Nurses’ Bargaining Association wage grid. Delegates defeated a resolution to increase the annual council stipend to $16,000. Remaining resolutions were debated and voted on the following day.
