Organized by the Workers with Disabilities Caucus and the Senior Nurses’ Network, this webinar features a presentation by Lani deHek, Senior Safety, Ability and Wellness Specialist at BCNU. Members will also be invited to share their experiences with menopause in the workplace and solutions through discussion following the presentation.

Menopause is a continuum that includes perimenopause, menopause and post menopause. Everyone experiences it differently. Our bodies, cultures, identities, and life experiences all affect how we experience menopause and what kinds of support we need. People going through menopause face more barriers to accessing care and appropriate treatment.

Common symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, heat sensitivity, and cognitive challenges (including forgetfulness and difficulty concentrating) are often worsened by long shifts, heavy workloads, and fast-paced healthcare environments.

When workplaces do not offer the right supports or accommodations, nurses going through menopause may face serious health and safety risks. Creating caring, accessible, and inclusive workplaces means recognizing menopause as an accessibility issue.

Using the Menopause in Nursing report by the Menopause Foundation of Canada and the BC Nurses’ Union, this webinar looks at practical workplace changes and supports that can help nurses stay healthy and safe while continuing their work.
