Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) bring so much skill, knowledge, heart and experience to the nursing profession in Canada. The recruitment and retention of IENs is critical to achieving minimum nurse-to-patient ratios and addressing the nursing shortage in Canada.

At the same time, IENs face incredible hardship and barriers in joining the nursing workforce from licensing, to bullying and discrimination in the workplace to the lack of adequate orientation support and mentorship at worksites.

Acting on BCNU’s commitment to building a healthcare system that is inclusive, safe and welcoming for everyone, the Mosaic of Colour Caucus (MoC) invites all IENs to share their concerns and perspectives at a virtual townhall. The townhall, led by MoC regional representatives, is a safe and welcoming space for IENs to feel heard at BCNU.

Union power is built through members’ voices. Practicing listening, in spaces like a virtual townhall, helps us ensure that the members who the union seeks to support are part of designing the directions, and purpose, of that support.

The stories, and experiences, of IENs matter to BCNU. Come share yours, bring questions and be in community and solidarity with other IENs at BCNU.

The event is not salary replaced and is open to all members and students to attend.
