DEI 101 Dinner Series - Inclusion at Work: A Conversation on Ageism in Nursing

This is a hybrid event, with an in-person dinner and the option for members to participate virtually in the workshop.
On September 28, join the Senior Nurses’ Network (SNN) and regional representatives at the BCNU head office in Burnaby for a community dinner and workshop on ageism in nursing.
The 90-minute workshop, led by Dr. Laura Kadowaki and Zena Simces, will introduce core ageism concepts through a blend of evidence-based presentations, activities and discussion. Topics will include:
- What ageism is
- The different types of ageism
- The harmful effects of ageism
- How to recognize ageism
- Strategies for eliminating ageism
Meet the speakers
Dr. Laura Kadowaki is a gerontology researcher and Healthy Aging specialist whose work focuses on ageism, seniors’ services, social determinants of health and seniors’ housing.
Zena Simces is a longtime advocate for older adults, with extensive experience advising on seniors’ well-being and addressing ageism and its impact.
