The Steward Intermediate course is designed to strengthen BCNU stewards’ ability to address issues in their workplaces and better support members. Activities focus on communicating effectively in difficult conversations and integrating BCNU’s member advocacy services.
This course delves deeper into key concepts taught in Steward Essentials by exploring labour relations theory about progressive discipline and union investigations. Stewards re-examine the grievance process, identify multiple issues within a single member incident scenario, and practise preparing and presenting complex grievances confidently at the Step 1 level.
Steward Intermediate is a blended learning course comprised of required weekly online learning activities scheduled over a four-week period and two live full-day sessions.
Online learning activities start on Oct. 27, 2025 and two live virtual sessions over Zoom are on Nov. 19-20.
This course is delivered through the BCNU Learning Centre, BCNU's learning management system. Stewards need to log in or create a new user account to apply.
BCNU reimburses participants for two days’ salary and one day for flipped classroom work.
