BCNU President Adriane Gear and members of council present the union’s inaugural Health Care Champion award to Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Mayor Rob Fraser and municipal staff at the Union of BC Municipalities convention in Victoria on Sept. 24, 2025.

The annual BCNU Health Care Champion award recognizes a local government taking significant actions to support nurses and strengthen health care in their community. Local governments can help attract nurses to their communities by investing in accessibility and affordability of housing, child care, transportation and recreation. Northern Rockies Regional Municipality was the winner of the inaugural Health Care Champion award in 2025.

Nominations for the 2026 Health Care Champion are now closed. The winner will be announced at the Union of BC Municipalities convention in September.
