30,000 Members Now In Receipt of Damages Cheques

July 27, 2017
Cheques are still pending for over 500 members who met the June 30 deadline but have not submitted necessary receipts

BCNU is pleased to report that the union's promise to issue currently-practicing RN and RPN members a one-time cheque for $350 has now been fulfilled. All RNs and RPNs covered by the provincial collective agreement received a portion of a damages award paid to BCNU by the employer for their failure to implement the safe staffing provisions from the 2012-2014 collective agreement. Following the ratification of the current contract, these monies were then allocated for distribution.

Cheques have now been issued to a majority of RNs and RPNs eligible to receive their portion of the damages award. In order to receive their cheque, members had to complete an online form and submit proof of their college registration fees. Since January, over 30,000 applications with proper documentation have been processed and cheques have been mailed out via Canada Post.

BCNU is making every effort to contact over 500 members who met the June 30 deadline but were unsuccessful in their first attempt to submit their receipt showing payment of their 2017 college registration fees.

If you have not received your cheque, please refer to the RN/RPN Damages page for information about how to follow up.

The final deadline for all documentation to be submitted is August 15, 2017.

Damages cheques will not be processed after this date.
