BCNU Rotation Representatives are helping NBA members develop new rotations for the 37.5 week

Process requires employers to use vacancies, casual and overtime hours to add more regular FTEs to maintain part-time employees' hours of work and build regular vacation relief

BCNU Rotation Representatives are available to help members to create rotations to incorporate the new 37.5 hour work week negotiated in the last round of provincial bargaining.

The representatives received education on their roles earlier this month. A critical part of their work will be serving as a liaison between members and employers so members can obtain the data the union requires to determine how many regular nursing positions will be required to implement the new rotations. A memorandum of agreement commits employers to minimize disruption and make the transition to new rotations as smooth as possible. It requires them to use vacancies, casual and overtime hours to add more regular nursing hours, including maintaining current part-time employees' hours of work and building in regular vacation relief.

Members wishing to create new rotations should connect with a representative for their area to ensure they receive the data required. The Rotation Representatives will also verify members' proposed rotations to ensure they meet collective agreement language and FTE calculations before submitting the rotations to the employer.

The representatives will be working closely with employer rotation specialists to answer questions and clarify how added hours of work will be incorporated into existing rotations consistent with the transition agreement.

The agreement on a 37.5 hour week was just one part of an overall package of measures to improve staffing and reduce workload. The union agreed to the increased work week in return for employer and government commitments to hire more nurses, create more regular positions, replace nurses who are away for vacations, maternity, sick leaves or other reasons, and increase staffing in situations of overcapacity.

The rotation representatives are:

Providence Health Care

Fraser Health

VIHA

Vancouver Coastal

Provincial Health Services Authority

Northern Health

Interior Health
