Nominations Committee Election

BCNU members are called to nominate a candidate for the Nominations Committee whose term will begin immediately upon their election and run until August 31, 2016.

This election is required to fill a vacancy on the current provincial Nominations Committee.

Candidates for the Nominations Committee can hold no BCNU office above that of steward, and must not be seen to be supporting any candidate in provincial or regional BCNU elections.

The election for the Nominations Committee member will be held at BCNU's annual convention. Each candidate will be given the opportunity to deliver a three-minute speech at an all-candidates' meeting held during convention. If a candidate is not attending convention, they may submit a speech in writing that will be available for delegates to read.

The purpose of the Nominations Committee is to:

  1. Carry out the duties of the BCNU Constitution and Bylaws and others as may be assigned by the BCNU Council including:
    • Liaise with BCNU staff members in the processing of elections
    • Liaise with regional Nominations Committee chairs.
    • Liaise and conduct business with external agencies for purposes related to processing of elections.
    • Develop election packages and supervise their delivery.
    • Supervise the voting process, and;
    • Communicate and supervise the communication of election process information and election results to candidates, members, staff and the public.
  2. Advise and make recommendations to BCNU Council, the executive committee and/or executive directors.

  3. Report to the BCNU Council.

  4. Encourage BCNU activists to seek nomination for the CRNBC Board.

The scope of this committee encompasses all elections for elected officers of the union.

Nominations Committee Nomination Forms

All nominations must be submitted on the British Columbia Nurse's Union official nomination form for Nominations Committee or a facsimile thereof.

Each nomination form must be signed by any four individual BCNU members eligible under Article 2 of the British Columbia Nurses' Union Constitution and Bylaws.

Candidates shall submit a biographical sketch and a statement of objectives which, when combined, will be no more than 250 words. This information must be typed in the space provided on the form. Candidates must also provide a recent 5" x 7" high resolution photo (head and shoulders shot). The photo and other information will be circulated with the convention delegate material.

Each nominee must sign the consent and declaration statements of the nomination form. Candidates and those who nominate them must be BCNU members. Nominations, biographical sketches and statements and photos must be received at the BCNU office in Burnaby by 5:00 pm on February 14, 2014. Please ensure your envelope is clearly marked "Nomination Form" and addressed Mabel Tung, Chair of the Democracy in the Union Committee. Material received after this deadline will not be accepted.
