Independent Review of Workers' Compensation System Underway

July 05, 2019
Members are encouraged to participate, offer input on how Workers' Compensation can be more "worker-centric"

For the first time in 17 years, the provincial government is conducting a formal and independent review of Workers Compensation, with the goal to collect recommendations and improve the system so that it better supports injured workers.

This is a key opportunity for BCNU members to influence real change in regards to how the compensation system operates.

From now until July 19, members can email written feedback to Info@wcbreview.ca or participate by completing an online questionnaire, submitting a written submission of their experience or signing up to tell their story at one of the public hearings that are scheduled to run from July 14 -19 in several communities around the province. BCNU Executive Councillor Adriane Gear presented at a public hearing of the Review in Victoria on Thursday July 11.

The Review comes on the heels of the government's recent announcement that nurses are now included in mental injury presumption legislation. In the past, BCNU has heard from many members who have experienced problems when filing a mental injury claim.

The BCNU WCB Advocacy department is able to assist members who are presenting at a public hearing. Please call BCNU's head office at 604.433.2268 and ask for the WCB Advocacy Department.

Learn more about the process by visiting the Workers' Compensation Review website.
