Umar Sheikh Appointed Executive Director, Negotiations and Strategic Development for BCNU

The BC Nurses' Union Council is pleased to confirm the appointment of Umar Sheikh as Executive Director, Negotiations and Strategic Development.

Mr. Sheikh has been serving BCNU as Acting Executive Director since May 2017. He previously held the position of General Counsel and Director of Legal Services, responsible for overseeing teams of labour relations officers as well as providing legal and strategic guidance to BCNU.

Mr. Sheikh has utilized his extensive bargaining, negotiations and labour relations experience over the past five years with the union, as well as in his prior role with the Ministry of Health as Director of Labour Relations, Acute Care.

Umar Sheikh has also worked in the United States and Europe in his position as Director of Strategic Negotiations for International Machinery until 2008. He also currently sits as a director on the Board of Nav Canada.

The BC Nurses' Union looks forward to Mr. Sheikh's continued outstanding service to the members of BCNU in his new permanent role as Executive Director, Negotiations and Strategic Development.

Mr. Sheikh, along with BCNU council representatives, will be leading discussions across BC with BCNU members over the next few months in preparation for bargaining.
