24/7 Phone Line Set Up to Respond to Nurses' Health and Safety Concerns

March 20, 2020
BCNU phone line established as provincial and regional offices transition to remote model in response to pandemic

A BCNU health and safety phone line has been activated effective 5:00 pm March 20 to respond to nurses who have occupational health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to escalate across the province. This phone line is available to all nurses who require urgent assistance 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

BCNU's in-person and office-based staff departments are now transitioning to remote services for our members. The provincial and regional offices are no longer accessible and members who call the union's main line will be prompted to leave messages with specific departments. Every effort will be made to reply to member calls within 48 hours.

Despite this change in operations, the safety of our members remains the union's number one priority. BCNU health and safety officers and labour relations experts will be taking all calls to the BCNU health and safety support line.

At this time, all BCNU resources will be directed to supporting our members in every way possible, and we are increasing our direct call and other support services over the next week onward. However, there may be a few technical glitches as we transition to these new systems of operations over the next few days and we appreciate your understanding if this occurs.

Members are encouraged to reach out to their BCNU steward or regional chair, and to check the coronavirus FAQ and resources web page regularly, as well as the BCNU Member Portal and BCNU social media channels for updated information.

BCNU is fully engaged in increasing the support and services we provide to our members during this public health emergency, and to helping sustain the good health of all British Columbians in any way that we can.

JUNE 2021 UPDATE:
BCNU's Member Safety and Support Phone Line has now transitioned to the voicemail system currently in place to direct members to the appropriate union resources to best address questions and concerns.

For those who continue to seek COVID-19 related occupational health and safety (OH&S) support, please remember to review resources available on our website.

If you require a response from a member of staff, please call 1-866-663-9991 and listen for the relevant menu options.

Please leave a message and your call will be returned within three business days. Of course, urgent and time-sensitive safety issues that occur should be reported directly to your employer followed by a phone call to BCNU at the number above.

If you are NOT receiving updates, news, and events emailed to you, log in to the BCNU Member Portal and update your information.
