Tell your MLA: A strong collective agreement helps retain the nurses BC needs
BC’s nurses are taking job action for a collective agreement that supports safe patient care and a stable health-care system.
Nurses don’t want to be on picket lines, but the provincial government and health employers can no longer ignore the pressures on the health-care system, nurses are taking action. Among the biggest challenges the system faces is a severe nursing shortage, which will never be addressed without serious improvements to nurses’ working conditions.
The current job action follows an historic strike vote in which 50,850 nurses participated, with 98.2 per cent voting in favour. Members later rejected a tentative agreement by 67 percent, signalling that the government's bargaining mandate failed to address nurses' core concerns, including a meaningful general wage increase and solutions that improve nurse retention and workplace safety.
